STREAD reveal

every summer my friend of 26 years now, kl, and i take a trip together.  we take turns planning the trip and then we do a "reveal" in the spring to let the other know where we are going.  honestly, i look forward to the reveal as much as i do the trip itself.  in past years, i have painted a bowl (for the dust bowl tour of the midwest), embroidered a pillow (the states of new hampshire and vermont), she has made baked alaska (for our alaskan cruise) and she has made lists of all the categories of the wonders of the world (for our trip to chichen itza.)  it is always a creative challenge for the one planning the trip!

this year she is the planner.  i visited her in january and she presented me with this - a revised copy of the declaration of independence.  yes, we are going to philadelphia!  kl aged a piece of paper and had a friend write in calligraphy what our itinerary on this trip will be.  i have never been to pennsylvania so this will be a first.  we are traveling to gettysburg, hershey, and then up to niagra falls (another first.)    I am really looking forward to this trip which will take place in july.  andria (a wonderful blog friend) has sent me a list of must-sees in the philadelphia area, which i so appreciate.  hopefully, i will get to see her there, as well.  we will also be participating in rinda's photography scavenger hunt  (this will be our second year as participants) while we are there - another fun addition.

i love the way art can work its way into life, plans, and memories.

*BTW - we call our annual vacations STREAD for sleep, talk, read, eat and drink.  however, they are so much more than that.  we have traveled all over the world in the past 26 years and enjoy the opportunity to connect with each other, as well as take in the beauty and cultures that make up our earthly home.

  1. What a wonderful idea this is. I have a friend of a similar number of years and we took a big birthday trip a few years back. I would love to repeat it..and the idea of doing it every year? How special is that!
